Via Ferrata

The via ferrata is a must for adventurous visitors to the area.

VIA FERRATA

El Chorro now has a via ferrata that climbs high up the rockface, it takes 3-4 hours in total and is rated at a medium difficulty. We reccomend taking plenty of water in summer months and do not attempt in wet or windy conditions.

Starting from the car park near Albercones, the staples (or ladder rungs) that are set into the rock lead up to a zip wire where you cross the gulley to the adjacent rock face. The ferrata then leads up further to a Tibetan bridge and then up again to the wire walkway, balancing on a single steel cable with a cable above your head to clip into and balance with as you cross. From here the ferrata works it's way back round the rock face where you can either absail down or climb down the rungs to a path that snakes around and leads out towards the kiosk near the end of the caminito.

It is reccommended that you wear helmets and use a proper via ferrata kit with 2 dynamic slings connected to a harness, for the zip wire you should us a trolley pulley and extender sling. All equipment can be hired for around 15 euros from a shop locally. All via ferrata equipment can be rented locally, local guides are available for those that require
