Once a dangerous activity reserved for thrill seekers, now newly refurbished and open most days to visitors. The Caminito del Rey (King’s walkway) was completed in 1905 and was used by construction workers carrying goods to the Guadalhorce dam. Its royal association came when it was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII in 1921. In recent years it had fallen into poor condition and sadly led to many deaths and so was repaired and rebuilt. The Caminito Del Rey reopened in 2015 and was listed in the best new attractions for 2015 by Lonely Planet.

Caminito Del Rey

There are different sections to the linear walk – some open spaces where you walk alongside the river and can spot Herrons and others where the two sides of the gorge are very close together and you can hear the water gushing through underneath. The full length of the Caminito is 7.7 km and takes roughly 3-4 hours to complete. The path is open to ticket-holders Tuesday to Sunday. The path may be closed due to wind, rain or repairs at other times.
The Caminito del Rey is no longer open to climbers and walkers without pre-booking.
